Cody and I spend the day at the beach with our siblings.

Grayson and the twins run around in the surf and play ball while Cody and I sit in the sun and supervise. And talk. A lot.

He says he can’t figure out why I haven’t had a serious boyfriend.

I say I can’t figure out why he hasn’t had a serious girlfriend.

He grins at me. “Stalemate.”

“I guess,” I say.

“I bet it’s because guys are intimidated by you,” he says.

“Hardly,” I say.

“You have this confident aloofness about you,” he says. “It’s like you don’t need anybody. You’re just fine by yourself.”

I frown. “Is that how I come off?”

He shrugs. “A little.”

“Weird.”

“Oh, yeah, you definitely come off as weird. Super weird.” He makes a face and I burst out laughing and throw sand on him.

He throws his arm around me as if he has done it a million times.

“Guys are big wimpy babies, you know.”

“Oh, for sure,” I say.

I don’t tell him how Dylan wasn’t intimidated by me. So much so, that he fucked with me hard. And broke my heart.

“Let’s talk about you,” I say.

“No way.”

“Oh yeah?”

“I’ve a better idea. Let’s round these guys up and go eat by the pool. They are doing some paella or something out on the grill.”

“Deal.”

The kids all want to stop at the bathrooms just off the beach first. They file in noisily while Cody and I stand nearby.

Suddenly, Cody tugs at my hand.

He’s bare chested and had a beach towel slung over one shoulder, so as I follow him I admire his smooth, tan and slightly muscled back. Suddenly, I want to lick it. The thought makes me giggle.

He turns and smiles back at me.

What is up with my sudden desire to lick and bite him? All I know is I’d never thought this before I met Cody.

A few feet away from the entrance to the bathrooms, he pulls me around the corner of the building. It’s a dead-end area surrounded by walls that stretch up four stories showing a gap between the stairs from the beach and the pool level. The dead-end area is filled with tropical plants. Cody presses me up against the wall of the building. He stares at me for a second and then takes my face in his hands and kisses me.

At first his mouth is soft and somewhat tentative, sort of sweet. But as I respond to his kiss, an urgency and desperation seems to take over on both our ends. Before I know it, I have my fingers tangled in his hair and am pulling his head toward me. His tongue explores my mouth and I feel the pressure of it zip through my body sending waves of pleasure through me that make me press myself against his hardness. He groans and then I feel his hands under my shirt. His fingers slip under my bikini and flick my nipples gently until I am moaning.

“Cody?”

Shit.

One of the twins. Luckily still around the corner from us. Too close a call.
